In the Tarot, the Empress awaits us, ready to teach us the receptivity and surrender we need to cultivate in our selves so we can experience pleasure and abundance.

The Empress asks us to release our control over the outcome of our creative acts. We can create the environment, set things in motion, but we never control the final work. And she reminds us this is how life works – we our selves were desired and created into this world, but nobody could control who we were when we entered the world.

You can choose the words, but you don't entirely choose what a poem becomes.

You can cultivate an idea, but eventually you have to let it surprise you.

You can love someone, but you cannot control who they become.

If you consider that each creative project of yours, each relationship, has a life of its own, how might remembering this change your interactions with them?

#### Astrology - Venus

Often simplified as a planet or goddess of love and romance, Venus' deeper realm is that of value and desire. She asks us what we value enough to tend, what we care enough about to put in effort.

In the skies and astrological charts, Venus shows us our patterns in relationships - all relationships beyond romantic. What role do you take on in interactions with others? Who do they expect you to be? What do you desire in others, especially those with whom you are close? What attracts you to different partners, friends, or colleagues?

#### Numerology - #3

In numerology, the number 3 governs creation. After 1 (primal impulse) and 2 (desire for peace), 3 is this energy propelled into taking action and making something.

The first number of the Creation Triad (3-6-9), 3 is fiercely independent, seeking total freedom of movement to express all it's experiencing and feeling.

## The Paradox of The Empress

****Abundance through surrender.** We cannot force a seed to become a flower; we can only create the conditions which allow it to grow.

## Writing Prompts for The Empress

- Describe a garden you have known. What grew there that you didn’t plant?
- Write a poem that begins with a bodily sensation and follow is wherever it leads.
- Write about something you had to release in order to something else to grow.
- Write from the perspective of something that has no human language. What does it want you to understand about abundance?
- What experience are you still composting?
- What might grow if you stopped trying to control its shape?
